Located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, in the Graves wine region south of Bordeaux, Château Olivier is a historic estate with medieval charm, surrounded by forests and vineyards. Classified as a Grand Cru in the Graves appellation in 1953, the estate benefits from an exceptional terroir composed of deep gravel and clay-limestone soils. This geological mosaic lends great complexity to the château's red wines, renowned for their elegance, structure, and aging potential. Owned by the Bethmann family since the 19th century, Château Olivier embodies the alliance between Bordeaux tradition and modern winemaking. The 2024 vintage is the first to be certified organic.

The Château Olivier vineyard covers approximately 60 hectares in a single block, nearly 50 of which are dedicated to red grape varieties. The soils consist of deep gravel mixed with clay and limestone, typical of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. This diversity of terroirs allows for a nuanced expression of classic Bordeaux grape varieties. The blend, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, ensures structured wines, while Merlot contributes roundness and fruitiness. Sustainable farming practices are employed, respecting natural balances and biodiversity, to guarantee the purity of the fruit and a faithful expression of the terroir.

Owner and history

Owned by the Bethmann family since 1886, Château Olivier is now managed by Alexandre de Bethmann, a direct descendant of the family line. His ambition is clear: to produce wines that accurately reflect the potential of the terroir while respecting the environment. Under his leadership, the estate has undergone numerous technical renovations, particularly in the winery and vineyards, to elevate quality to the highest level. His commitment to sustainable viticulture and his exacting standards make Château Olivier a key player in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, renowned for its wines that are both classic and contemporary.

Vinification and aging

At Château Olivier, vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with rigorous sorting at harvest time. Each grape variety and each plot is vinified separately to preserve the typicity of each batch.
The 2024 vintage is currently aging, which typically lasts 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, approximately one-third of which are new. This careful aging process imparts complexity, subtle oak notes, and aging potential, while respecting the fruit.
