Clos Fourtet spans 20 hectares in the heart of the Saint-Émilion limestone plateau. This exceptional terroir, composed of shallow limestone soils, allows for ideal natural drainage and a unique mineral expression. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are cultivated using sustainable farming practices, with meticulous care throughout the year. Hand-harvesting allows for the selection of the finest grapes to produce a wine of great aromatic purity, true to the Saint-Émilion style.

Owner and history

Since 2001, Clos Fourtet has been owned by the Cuvelier family, who also own Château Poujeaux in Moulis. Coming from the world of wine distribution, the Cuveliers have dedicated their expertise and passion to excellence. They have embarked on a transition towards more sustainable practices, favoring a plot-by-plot approach, responsible viticulture, and highly precise winemaking. Surrounded by a talented team, they have elevated Clos Fourtet to the pinnacle of the Premier Grand Cru Classé estates of Saint-Émilion, while respecting the tradition and identity of this magical place.

Vinification and aging

Clos Fourtet combines tradition and innovation by vinifying each plot separately in temperature-controlled concrete vats after meticulous hand-harvesting. For the 2024 vintage, the wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new, to develop complexity and finesse. Each barrel is carefully monitored to preserve the wine's freshness, elegance, and aging potential. The result: a powerful, refined, and profoundly harmonious Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé B.
