94 points/100 Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate : “ For an entry-level wine, it's remarkable! Ampodium 2015 is a rich wine. The notes of black olive and raspberry verge on jam, but they are balanced by peppery spices and firm, flavorful tannins.

Pierre Roustaing's 2015 wines combine incredible power with flawless elegance.

    Owner and history

René Rostaing's vineyards extend across the Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and Coteaux du Languedoc appellations. In Côte-Rôtie, where he cultivates around fifteen parcels, the soils are primarily composed of mica schist, enriched with silica, clay, limestone, and iron oxides, depending on the specific characteristics of each plot. The Cuvée Classique is the result of a harmonious blend from thirteen different vineyard sites in Côte-Rôtie, thus revealing the diversity and richness of this exceptional terroir.

    Vinification and aging

The Côte-Rôtie wines from Domaine Rostaing are vinified using an identical process, designed to preserve the authenticity and typicity of each plot. The harvest, carried out by hand to guarantee rigorous selection of the grapes, is largely destemmed to limit overly aggressive tannins. Fermentation takes place in self-sealing tanks, allowing for controlled extraction of aromas and good homogeneity of the blend. The wine is then aged for approximately 24 months in barrels and 600-liter demi-muids, a choice that ensures an optimal balance between aromatic complexity and the finesse of the oak, thus enhancing the expression of the Côte-Rôtie terroir.
