History of the Estate Argiano - Italy

the story of Argiano - Italy

The history of Domaine Argiano

One of the oldest estates in Montalcino

THEDomaine Argianois an integral part of the history ofMontalcino, since its origins date back to 1580. According to hypotheses, the name Argiano comes from the first Roman settlements which evoked the God Janus “Ara Jani”, or from the first country on the Orcia river, which has now become Argiano.

The construction of the winery marked a turning point for Argiano, as it signaled the beginning of the estate's winemaking vocation. While several noble families succeeded one another over the centuries, it wasn't until the 19th century that Dame Ersilia Caetani Lovatelli acquired the estate and developed Argiano's products within the cultural circles of the time. The products quickly became renowned, so much so that a great poet of the era, Carducci, praised them in one of his poems. The estate was even awarded a gold medal for its table wines and fine dessert wines at the Brussels Food Fair in 1932.

In 1992, the estate was acquired by Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano. She implemented numerous innovations, particularly in the management of the business. These investments marked a new era for the estate. Since 2013, the property has been managed byBernardino SaniThe estate remains one of the most renowned in Tuscany to this day.
