A wine with unparalleled aging potential.

Sweet wines have excellent aging potential, but the Château d'Yquem It surpasses all expectations! You can enjoy it in its youth thanks to its lovely freshness, but it can also be savored for decades! Neal Martin indicates a peak between 2028 and 2090!

For reference, the other Grands Crus of Sauternes have peaks for the 2015 vintage that are between 2019 and 2060.

Note for your future tastings: the Château recommends a tasting temperature of around 9°C for young wines and 12°C for older ones.

History and ranking

THE Château Yquem has a rich history. Our favorite anecdote will always be Thomas Jefferson's order in 1790: 360 bottles of Yquem for himself and George Washington. You could say he enjoyed his first taste of Yquem!

Another highlight of Yquem's history: its classification as Premier Cru Superior to Sauternes. Indeed, it is the only one château to be included in the top of the ranking which lists 27 Grands Crus.

Sauternes classification of 1855

Producing a sweet wine is laborious; several passes through the vineyard are necessary to harvest the grapes affected by noble rot, a fungus that draws water from the berries and concentrates the sugar and natural acids. Yields are low, and sometimes capricious nature prevents production. Château d'Yquem meeting the quality requirements of this Premier Cru Superior (e.g., the 2012 vintage was not produced).

This exacting standard and special care can be felt in the glass, and it is certainly for this shared emotion that we are charmed by this exceptional wine.
