It is, in fact, this terroir, composed of "beautiful, large pebbles," that gives the estate its charming and evocative name. The proximity to the river not only provides magnificent views from the vineyards, but also natural irrigation and exceptional freshness to the soils. These precious characteristics give the estate's wines all their qualities.

A historic castle

Since the 13th century

This beautiful castle first appears in history in the 13th century. Until 1720, it belonged to the Bergeron family. Then, in 1795, the estate passed under the control of the Ducru family. From then on, they gave it their name, and the property became theChâteau Ducru-BeaucaillouBertrand Ducru decided to make significant changes to his large estate and his various winemaking facilities. Among other things, he wanted to improve his winemaking techniques by building new cellars. To this end, he commissioned the renowned architect Paul Abadie, known for designing the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris. This decision paid off, asDucru-BeaucaillouIt was awarded Second Growth status in the 1855 Classification. The Château then passed through the hands of two different families. Finally, the Borie family acquired it and still takes great care of it today.

The harvest is done by hand, with great care, and the vinification of each plot is carried out in the winery using traditional methods.
