The Pouilly-Fumé AOC , or Blanc-Fumé de Pouilly, is located near Nevers on the right bank of the Loire River. The vines face south, planted in soils of various types, including flint, limestone, and Kimmeridgian marl. It is a white wine appellation where Sauvignon Blanc is almost the only grape variety cultivated . In fact, this is where the appellation gets its name: Sauvignon Blanc is also known as Blanc Fumé.
Michel Redde and Son - La Moynerie
Michel Redde founded the estate with his wife in the early 1950s. Today, his son Thierry and his grandsons, Sébastien and Romain, manage the 42 hectares of vines . They produce wines under the Pouilly Fumé , Pouilly-sur-Loire and Sancerre appellations.
Several wines are available in the Blanc Fumé appellation of Pouilly. “Le Petit Fumé” is a light, easy-drinking wine made from 10- to 15-year-old vines, perfect with Crottin de Chavignol cheese or charcuterie. “La Moynerie” comes from slightly older vines and will age for 10 to 15 years. “Les Cornets,” “Les Champs des Billons,” and “Les Bois de Saint-Andelain” are named after their specific vineyard sites, where vines around thirty years old are cultivated. “Barre à Mine” comes from vines grown in a red flint quarry; it is a very mineral wine. Finally, “Majorum” is the prestige cuvée, produced only in exceptional vintages , and can be aged for 15 to 20 years.
