History of the Estate Weingut Vienne

      the story of Weingut Vienne

      Friendship and viticulture

The story of three passionate men

The domainWines of ViennaIt was founded in 1996, but its story goes back a few years earlier. In fact, it all began whenYves Cuilleronwelcomes to the estateFrançois Villardfor an internship in 1987. From there, a great friendship developed between the two men. François then joined the estate ofPierre Gaillardto continue learning. The three men meet frequently and decide, whenever the opportunity arises, to work together.

They are driven by the ambition to revitalize vineyards that the Romans cultivated long before them. The lands of SeyssuelThe conditions were perfect for taking on this new challenge. To offset the expenses of this project, they founded a wine trading company. In 1998, they produced their first vintage, a white wine. Red wines were bottled starting in 2004, under the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).Rhône HillsThe estate's wines have become the flagship wines of Vienne. As a partner of the region's famous Jazz festival, the reputation of Les Vins de Vienne continues to grow.AuthenticityIt has united the three winemakers. It is also this authenticity that stimulates and energizes each of the estate's initiatives.

      Revitalizing the vineyards of Seyssuel

The domainWines of Viennais located in the northern part of theRhône ValleyWhile the winery is located in Chavanay, the vineyards extend across several communes. In total, the estate covers 20 hectares, 15 of which are planted with red grape varieties. The region's estates are known for their specific planting conditions. Les Vins de Vienne is no exception, and some of its plots are situated in...60% slopes.

The Viognier (60%), Marsanne (40%), and Syrah vines receive the utmost care from the three winemakers and their teams. The white grape varieties are trained in the goblet style, while the red grape varieties are pruned using the Guyot method. All the vines are supported by stakes. The vineyard benefits from soils composed of granite and mica schist, which, combined with continental influences and abundant sunshine in the region, offer...high quality grapes.

The balance between flavors and values

Preserving traditions to enhance the Rhône hills

After a hand-harvesting, the grapes are meticulously sorted. They are then taken to the winery, which is remarkably modern. The white grape varieties undergo vertical pressing with whole bunches for 48 hours. After settling, the young wines are aged on their lees in French oak barrels or large casks for 9 to 16 months, depending on the vintage. The red wines are vinified differently. The bunches are first partially destemmed and then vinified. This process lasts a maximum of three weeks. The wines are then placed in French oak barrels for 16 months of aging.

The domainWines of Viennaoffers three great vintages that maketributes to the
ancient viticultureTwo red wines, the Solanum and Heluicum cuvées, along with the Taburnum white cuvée, make up this fine trio. The vineyard sites, meanwhile, comprise four red wines and five white wines cultivated inparcelEach of these wines aims to capture the flavors and aromas of the Rhône Valley hills. Beyond the sheer pleasure they offer, these wines seek to express the values of the three winemaking friends who are passionate about showcasing their region.
