History of the estate

Nestled in the heart of the Aix region, the Château du Seuil is among the oldest estates in the area. Even before the 15th century, it distinguished itself as a manor farm, before becoming a pleasure residence in the 17th century under the impetus of the Michaelis family, notables ennobled by Louis XIV. They undertook sumptuous renovations: an elegant classically inspired façade and superb French gardens that lend the place its full nobility.

In 2014, the Daussun family took over and breathed new life into the estate. A vast renovation program was launched: converting the vineyard to organic farming, modernizing the technical facilities, and restoring the historic buildings, including the château itself, now listed as a historical monument. Château du Seuil thus embodies a remarkable blend of tradition and modernity.

The vineyard

The Château du Seuil vineyard covers 62 hectares, between the hillsides of La Trévaresse and the Puyricard plateau, at an altitude of between 315 and 450 meters. This remarkable location, subject to significant temperature variations and the regular blow of the mistral wind, promotes healthy grapes and optimal ripening.

The soils, predominantly clay-limestone, form a veritable geological mosaic. The highest plots, at 430 meters, produce fine and aromatic white wines. The southwest-facing slopes, on poor, red soils, are dedicated to age-worthy reds. As for the intermediate plateaus, they yield rosés and whites of great elegance.

Certified organic since 2019, the estate cultivates the typical grape varieties of Provence: Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rolle, Ugni Blanc and Caladoc. This diversity offers a range of balanced wines, fully expressing the identity of the terroir.

Winemaking and aging

Since 2016, Château du Seuil has relied on a new generation winery, designed to preserve the integrity of the fruit at every stage. Built on two levels, it allows for gravity-flow winemaking, which limits handling and respects the raw material.

The reds are vinified in concrete tanks, promoting gentle micro-oxygenation that refines the tannins and enriches the texture. The whites and rosés ferment in stainless steel tanks, guaranteeing freshness and aromatic vibrancy. Depending on the cuvée, aging in large oak casks or French oak barrels adds structure and complexity, without ever masking the varietal expression.
