    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

The deep ruby color of Château Phélan Ségur 2014 heralds an intense wine. The nose reveals complex aromas of ripe black fruit, cedar, blond tobacco, and sweet spices. On the palate, the attack is ample, the tannins well-integrated, and the texture velvety. The long, fresh finish testifies to skillful aging and a very fine overall balance.

    Food & wine pairings

This wine is an ideal accompaniment to a rack of roast lamb, a beef fillet with ceps or a Provençal daube.

The Château Phélan Ségur vineyard covers 70 hectares of gravelly soils over clay-limestone subsoil, typical of Saint-Estèphe. This terroir, particularly well-suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, promotes slow and even ripening. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are carefully tended to best express the complexity and depth of the Médoc terroir.

    Owner and history

Since 1985, the Gardinier family has breathed new life into Château Phélan Ségur, blending tradition and modernity. In 2017, Philippe Van de Vyvere, a Belgian entrepreneur with a passion for wine, became its new owner. His commitment is reflected in a constant pursuit of excellence, sustainable vineyard management, and investments aimed at enhancing the expression of the terroir. Each vintage reflects this dedication to quality.

    Vinification and aging

At Château Phélan Ségur, winemaking respects the typicity of the vintage and each plot through a rigorous parcel-by-parcel approach. The wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, to preserve the fruit while imparting an elegant structure. The 2014 vintage stands out for its beautiful substance and aging potential.
