Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

The 2018 Clos Nouveau from Domaine du Bel Air boasts a deep ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose opens with aromas of ripe black fruit, pepper, and forest floor. On the palate, the attack is dense, the tannins well-integrated, and the texture ample. The long, flavorful finish reveals slightly smoky and spicy notes, attesting to perfectly controlled aging. A complex and structured wine with admirable balance.

Food & wine pairings

This wine pairs wonderfully with a rack of roast lamb, duck breast or mushroom risotto.

Producer

Producer

Clos Nouveau comes from a vineyard located on the clay-limestone slopes of Benais, in the heart of the Bourgueil appellation. The soil, composed of tuffeau and flinty clay, gives the wine its characteristic minerality and freshness. The vines, several decades old, are cultivated organically. They are harvested by hand to guarantee optimal quality. This emblematic Loire terroir gives rise to profound, balanced wines, built for aging.

Owner and history

Domaine du Bel Air is now managed by Frédéric Mabileau, successor to a family tradition spanning several generations. Passionate about his terroir, he has taken over the work of his father, Jacky Blot, maintaining a meticulous and artisanal approach. A firm believer in organic farming, he strives to reveal the soul of each plot. Thanks to his commitment to authenticity and precision, the estate has established itself as one of the leading names in Bourgueil.

Vinification and aging

Domaine du Bel Air practices traditional and plot-by-plot winemaking, with fermentations in wooden or stainless steel vats, to preserve the identity of the terroir.
The 2018 Clos Nouveau benefits from extended aging in barrels that have previously held several wines, for 12 to 18 months. This aging method imparts a beautiful aromatic complexity to the wine while preserving the integrity of the fruit. The result is a harmonious, structured wine, ready to age beautifully in the cellar.
