Description

Located on the prestigious La Crau plateau, in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe embodies the winemaking excellence of the Southern Rhône Valley. Founded in 1898 by Hippolyte Brunier, this family estate is today a true benchmark, renowned for the consistency and depth of its wines. Vieux Télégraphe owes its name to a former telegraph station that once overlooked its vineyards. Its wines, produced from a unique terroir of rolled pebbles, express with both power and elegance the full typicity of the soils and the aromatic richness of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Producer

The Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe vineyard stretches across the La Crau plateau, one of the most emblematic terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vines grow in soils covered with large, rounded pebbles, which retain the sun's heat and ensure optimal ripening of the grapes. The vines, averaging 50 years old, draw their strength from deep within this poor, well-drained soil, producing wines of character, both powerful and remarkably refined with minerality.

Owner and history

Today, the estate is managed by the fourth generation of the Brunier family, represented by Daniel and Frédéric Brunier. Their journey illustrates an unwavering commitment to tradition while integrating modern, environmentally friendly techniques. Passionate and exacting, they have elevated Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe to the ranks of the world's leading Rhône wineries. Their vision, based on expressing the terroir and passing down family knowledge, continues to write the prestigious history of La Crau.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe is based on a traditional approach combining ancestral know-how and respect for the fruit. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, guaranteeing precision and aromatic purity.
For the 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape white, the juices are vinified primarily in stainless steel tanks and wooden casks, with a few months of aging on fine lees. This process gives the wine both breadth, aromatic complexity, and a remarkable freshness on the finish.
