    Owner and history

Neighboring the Cheval Blanc and Pétrus estates, the Château l'Evangile vineyard extends across the Pomerol appellation. It is through one of those geological mysteries that, southeast of the Pomerol plateau, a curious geological feature has brought a long vein of gravel to the surface. Three vineyards, including l'Evangile, share this rare soil. The estate is bordered to the north by the vines of Château Pétrus and separated to the south from Cheval Blanc in Saint-Emilion only by a secondary road. The vineyard covers 16 hectares of sandy-clay soil with pure gravel and a subsoil rich in iron deposits. The vines are 30 years old.

    Vinification and aging

The winery and cellars were rebuilt in 2004 to better accommodate the parcel selection process. The grapes from each parcel are initially separated into batches to assess their suitability for the Grand Vin after fermentation is complete. A close integration of traditional and modern winemaking methods guides all cellar operations. Fermentation in tanks is conducted using the classic method of pump-overs and controlled maceration (with frequent tastings). Once fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to oak barrels where it ages for 18 months. A rigorous selection process is employed to produce both Château L'Évangile and its second wine, Blason de L'Évangile.
