Renommée Internationale : La réputation internationale de ses vins a explosé suite au célèbre "Jugement de Paris" en 1976, où des vins californiens (un Chardonnay et un Cabernet Sauvignon) ont battu de grands crus français lors d'une dégustation à l'aveugle.
Régions Célèbres : La région de la Napa Valley (connue notamment pour son excellent Cabernet Sauvignon) et la Sonoma Valley sont des régions viticoles de renommée mondiale. D'autres régions comme la Central Coast (Paso Robles, Santa Barbara) sont également très réputées.
Cépages Dominants : Les cépages les plus importants sont le Cabernet Sauvignon (surtout à Napa), le Chardonnay, le Zinfandel et le Merlot. Le Zinfandel est souvent considéré comme le cépage emblématique du style californien.
